Everything You Need to Know About the Maverick

A blue 2022 Ford Maverick is shown parked at night.

Here at Ruge’s Ford, we have people come to us all the time asking about Ford’s lineup, especially the sizes of trucks we offer. In recent years, we only had a midsize and full-size option, but now Ford has a small truck available in the 2022 Ford Maverick. As your Kingston Ford dealer, we are incredibly pleased to be able to offer the Maverick and the rest of the Ford lineup to our customers. No matter what you are looking for in your next pickup (or what size), we will do everything we can to make sure you drive away in the perfect truck.

Let’s take a look at the Maverick and what it brings to the Ford lineup. While the F-150 is still likely to be your best choice if you need something that can get some serious work done, the Maverick is an amazing option for light work and play. You’ll see why so many people are excited about the Maverick for camping, tailgating, and getting around town.

A Standard Hybrid Engine

One of the most remarkable aspects of the completely-new Ford Maverick (of which there are many) is that it’s the first-ever pickup to come standard with a full-hybrid engine. Not just the first compact truck, but the first of any truck to be offered with an impressive hybrid engine as standard. The 2.5L full hybrid engine is a lot of fun, too, as it gives you 191 hp and 173 lb-ft of torque. Perhaps best of all, you get an estimated 42 MPG in the city and 33 MPG on the highway with this engine, making it incredibly efficient to keep your gas costs low.

Of course, if you’re not looking for a hybrid engine, then you can choose an available 2.0L EcoBoost Turbo I-4 engine. This beauty boosts the performance of the Maverick to 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque and comes with an 8-speed automatic transmission. You lose some efficiency with this engine, but it still gets an impressive 23 MPG in the city and 30 MPG on the highway while giving you more power.

Available All-Wheel Drive

You might think that choosing a compact truck like the new Ford Maverick means you need to settle for some kind of reduced driving experience, but that’s far from the case. The standard engine for the Maverick comes with front-wheel drive, which is perfectly designed to feel great with its hybrid powertrain. If you choose the available 2.0L engine, however, you can also choose all-wheel drive to enjoy power going to all four wheels. This is perfect if you’re interested in taking the Maverick off-road or if you simply want extra traction for going camping.

Impressive Payload and Towing

A truck, even a compact truck, needs to give you impressive functionality so you can use it for everything you need. Despite its small size, the Maverick gives you plenty of muscle so you can load it up or haul a trailer behind you. With its standard hybrid engine, this Ford pickup truck can handle 1,500 lbs of payload capacity or up to 2,000 lbs of towing. The 4.5-foot bed offers plenty of space for piling in bags of mulch and soil, loading up with coolers, or taking anything else you need with you.

If you choose the available 2.0L Turbo engine, however, then you get even more capability from your pickup. With its available engine, the Maverick can handle up to 4,000 lbs of towing capacity, making it an excellent choice if you need to haul a boat to the river for the weekend or pull a small camper behind you. The available 4K Tow Package makes it easy to hook up your trailer or anything else you need to haul and includes a Class III tow rating, a hitch, and seven-pin connector.

Designed for Daily Use

One of our favorite things about the all-new Maverick is that it utilizes FordPass and the latest Ford connectivity technology. This makes it easy to enjoy your truck without it pulling you away from your daily life, particularly through the use of the FordPass app on your phone. You’ll get vehicle health alerts on your phone, like a warning that you need an oil change soon, as well as the ability to find where you parked. You can even set up service for your truck through the app and then bring your Maverick in for quick and easy maintenance that’ll have you back on the road in no time.

Still Built Ford Tough

You might worry that a compact truck like the Maverick hasn’t been built to be as rugged as other models like the Ford F-150, but that’s far from the case. Ford has ensured that the Maverick is a worthy addition to their lineup, and it’s been engineered and designed to be as tough as any other model. This has included real-world testing in harsh environments, from the scorching heat of Arizona to the freezing wilds of Canada – even high-altitude testing at Pikes Peak in Colorado. The Maverick can go anywhere you need it to, and it’s as tough and reliable as any other Ford truck.

Gorgeous Interior

In decades past, pickups were pretty barebones affairs that were built with a focus on capability first and foremost. These days, however, trucks are some of the most sophisticated vehicles on the road, and the all-new Maverick illustrates this beautifully. Inside, despite its compact size, you’ll find comfortable seating for up to five people and rear under-seat storage that makes it easy to take everything you need with you.

There are three trims available for the Maverick, starting with the XL, that includes a 4.2-inch instrument cluster screen, cloth bucket seats, and an 8-inch infotainment display. Moving up to the XLT trim, you get stylish interior updates along with a 6-speaker sound system, plus available options like heated seats and a heated steering wheel. The Lariat trim takes things to the next level with an 8-way power driver’s seat, ambient lighting, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a 6.5-inch instrument display, and a stunning 8-speaker B&O sound system that is optional. To open things up, the available power moon roof provides you and your passengers with a stunning view of the sky above.

Functional and Stylish Exterior

One look is all it takes to see how beautifully the Ford Maverick has been designed, but it’s also incredibly functional. The multi-position tailgate, for example, can open to provide you with a work surface, be positioned half-closed to extend what you can load into it, or be closed securely with available Power Locking functionality. Both the XLT and Lariat trims feature available pre-installed bed lighting, plus you get a pair of standard 12V connections for a wide range of devices such as a mini-fridge, TV, or other appliances.

What More Do You Need to Know?

As you can see, the Ford Maverick has clearly been designed as a compact truck for people who don’t need the massive size and power of a full-size or even a midsize model but who want the functionality and freedom of a pickup. We didn’t even mention the impressive FX4 Off-Road package that adds 17-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires, skid plates to protect the underside, and specially tuned shocks for handling the trail. There are also tons of accessories and options available, like a bed extender and the Ford Integrated Tether System (FITS) that let you customize the Maverick and make it truly your own. No matter what you’re looking for in a compact truck, the Maverick can become the pickup you’ve been waiting for. Contact us today to set up a test drive!
