It's the Little Things: Comparing the 2024 F-150 to the 2024 Ram 1500

There is an old saying that the devil is in the details; this means that small items can often be the most problematic. This is certainly the case when you have to choose your next truck. Most full-size pickup trucks feature a powerful engine, rugged design, and solid towing and hauling capabilities. For example, in comparing the 2024 Ford F-150 and 2024 Ram 1500, we see two full-size trucks with excellent engines to choose from.

But if you dig down into the details, there are clear differences between these two trucks. Ford offers you more options, more standard tech, and better available features than Ram does. This is why, if you are looking for your next full-size truck, you should look for a Ford F-150 for sale. At Ruge’s Ford, we carry the full Ford lineup of trucks and SUVs, including the 2024 Ford F-150, so you can find the exact Ford F-150 you want with the engine, trim level, and other features you desire.

Ford Gives You More Options Than Ram

When you are choosing a pickup truck, you want to be able to configure it to fit your personal needs as much as possible. After all, each of us has different needs when it comes to our pickup truck.

Some plan to use their truck solely for work and want to maximize towing and hauling capabilities, while others are looking for a truck as a daily driver, so they desire the best fuel economy. Then are those who want a truck they can use as a family vehicle during their free time. Up here in the Hudson Valley, we find plenty of customers who like to use their trucks for sport, taking them on camping, hunting, fishing, and hiking adventures; these people need a truck that can stand up to off-road trails. Since no one truck can do it all, it is crucial to have options.

The 2024 Ford F-150 gives drivers more options than the 2024 Ram 1500. Not only does Ford offer nine trim levels to the eight found on the Ram 1500, but it also gives you more choices of engines and cab styles. While both trucks offer two different four-door cabs, even if they use different names, only Ford gives you the ability to get one with a two-door regular cab; this allows you to maximize your towing and hauling capability. For the record, Ford calls the cab with the half-size rear doors a Super Cab, while Ram calls it a Quad Cab; both call their full-size rear seat cabs a Crew Cab.

In addition to cab options, Ford gives you more engine options. In fact, Ford gives you six different engines to choose from, including three different V6s, two V8s, and one hybrid powertrain. In contrast, you only get three engine options on the 2024 Ram 1500, one of which is a supercharged V8 that only comes on the TRX trim level. Therefore, you really only get two engine choices on the other seven Ram 1500 trims—either a V6 or a V8.

It's also worth noting that each Ford F-150 has a ten-speed automatic transmission, giving you two extra gears over the standard eight-speed automatic transmission featured on all models of the 2024 Ram 1500.

More Standard Safety Features With Ford

Most automakers have developed advanced active driver assistance features for their vehicles. These systems combine cameras, radar, sonar, and computers to help detect hazards before they arise, so they can help drivers avoid accidents by taking evasive action. This is why it's surprising that the 2024 Ram 1500 does not include Ram’s driver assistance systems as standard features.

Ford includes Co-Pilot360 2.0 with all trims of the 2024 Ford F-150, even the entry-level XL trim. As a result, you will get such standard active driver assistance features as Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, which will let you know if there is a pedestrian or another vehicle in the path of your truck, allowing you to take evasive action. It will also automatically engage the emergency brakes, helping you to avoid a collision.

The F-150 also has BLIS with Cross-Traffic Alert and Trailer Tow Coverage. BLIS stands for Blind Spot Information System, and it lets you know if there is another vehicle next to your truck when you go to change lanes or about to cross behind you when you are in reverse. This even works when you are towing a trailer, taking into account the added distance. These and other standard active features will improve your safety when driving a Ford F-150.

Making Great Infotainment More Af-Ford-able

Many drivers have come to love the infotainment systems in their vehicles. These advanced features allow them to pair their phones to the entertainment system using things like Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. As a result, you can make hands-free calls and texts, stream your favorite music, and use your navigation apps all through the touchscreen.

While both the 2024 Ford F-150 and Ram 1500 feature their respective brands’ infotainment systems, the one of the F-150 is more advanced. Every 2024 F-150 comes with a SYNC 4 infotainment system with a 12.0-inch capacitive touchscreen. This is one of the largest standard screens on any full-size truck. It also includes a one-year trial of connected navigation, as well as FordPass Connect 5G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot; this will help you and your passengers stay connected wherever you go.

In contrast, the standard Uconnect system on the Ram 1500 only has a 5.0-inch touchscreen. If you want a larger 8.4- or 12.0-inch screen, you have to pay for a higher trim level. The same goes for all of the advanced features, like a built-in navigation system. Ram makes you pay extra for something that comes standard on every Ford.

A More Advanced Tailgate for a New Generation

The newest feature on the 2024 Ford F-150 is the Pro Access tailgate. You can open this tailgate by opening it from the driver's side like a door in addition to folding it down like a traditional tailgate; this gives you easy access, even if you are towing a trailer. The door can be opened with one hand on the handle or by using the truck’s key fob. In addition, Ford offers a number of accessories to work with the Pro Access tailgate.

You can get bed dividers so that you can split up your items of cargo. You can also get a tonneau cover to shield your belongings from inclement weather. There is also an available rear bumper step to help you get into and out of your F-150’s box bed. The swinging door on the Pro Access tailgate also has an internal mechanism that stops it from banging into the trailer jack, so you can avoid dents; this feature is available on all trims of the 2024 Ford F-150 except for the base XL.

Ford also offers Pro Power Onboard, which adds a series of electrical outlets to your payload bed. As a result, you can use your Ford F-150’s tailgate as a workstation when you are on a job site. When paired with the available bed lighting, this allows you to use your box bed for work or camping, no matter the time of day. Features like these add to the convenience and versatility of the Ford F-150, and they're key to setting this truck apart from competitors like the 2024 Ram 1500.
